Every other Tuesday night, myself, a staff woman of [Cru], and three other ladies meet to talk about life and learn more about God. Our group is beautiful. It is a comfortable place where we all feel free to share anything and cry if we need to. A few weeks ago we studied Ephesians. I learned many things from this book in the Bible, but what impacted me most was the “Armor of God.” As Christians, God has provided for us armor to be worn each day. Armor that will protect us from the workings of the devil. This armor is to be worn daily because as Christians in this world we are up against far more than we can handle ourselves. But with God, we can do anything.
When learning what Ephesians says about the armor of God, I found all of the pieces of armor to be so neat and such a gift from God, but I was most excited about the shield of faith! The shield of faith that God gives us is awesome to think about and gives me a beautiful image of what it is to be used for. He has given us this shield so that we can stand behind our faith in times of trouble and to “extinguish the flaming darts of the evil one” (Eph. 6:16). What a weapon!
I think it is a beautiful thing to put on the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of readiness, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit each day so that we will be fully protected by God. Having everything we need to fight off the demons in our lives and to protect us from the evil doings of the devil.
Ephesians 6:10-20 ESV
10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, 19and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, 20for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.
